I hope this website is useful and as always I welcome your input/feedback and communication!
All work in our health class is due on Monday 5/20 for full credit!
(extra credit work, late work, make-up work, redo work...all work)
Extra Credit!
Unless otherwise noted, all extra credits listed are 3% each .
You can do all of them or none of them or just some of them!
You must show ALL the proof/work for ANY credit!
Almost all of the extra credit choices/alternative assignments can be found within the agendas near the date I spoke about them in class/below, but here are some to get you started:
5% Extra Credit! Create and submit a Project:
-Create a Power Point or Prezi (can ask me about other formats-no to Google Slides) or a 3D model with info card or amazing poster (again, no to Google Slides) on your approved topic - worth up to 5% (AKA 5 extra credit points) (many students do not get full credit because they do not follow the directions)
10 slides - colorful, creative, not a lot of words (bullet points-no more than 10 words/slide) (can and should put more information in the notes section of the Power Point - below the slides), MUST always be in your own words! MLA citations required (teacher-librarian can help)
Possible topics:
-mask (how to wear correctly-must cover your nose/why?, don't touch your mask/why?, who does it protect?) poster *artists
-vaccines in general (power point)
-COVID in general (power point)
-hand washing (steps, when to wash) *easy and fun (video), review the Ed Puzzle for the steps
-hand sanitizer (% and how to do it and why it is not as good as hand washing-include food allergy information) (power point or video)
-classroom emergencies (fire, earthquake, active shooter, injury) *easy and fun (video or poster)
-rules reminder: poster *artists
-washing hands posters (make one of the following: small ask, wear a mask or spread love not germs or pandemic, but make it fashion or wear a mask, save a grammie or you big disgrace, spreading your germs all over the place or love is in the air, but so is the COVID-wash your hands or spread kindness not germs or if you hate washing your hands, you're really not going to like the ventilator or straight outta quarantine) *artists
***I really need at least one on how to edit posted documents (I post it in Schoology, you have to take notes on it and resubmit it to me), many students cannot print and don't know how to do this :) *easy if you know how to do it :) video
If you are doing vaccines here is how to set it up...you can also use these steps for general guidance on doing any of the Power Points:
slide 1 - your first and last name, period, title for your presentation
2nd slide - history of vaccines (who discovered/how did they come about)
3rd slide - what is a vaccine (made of) and how is it administered
4th slide how does a vaccine work
5th slide - who should get a vaccine and when
6th & 7th slide - myths about vaccines (total of 4-6 myths)
8th cost and where to get
9th why they are important (what happens if you don't get)
10th slide - sources (must use CDC.gov, vaccines.gov, FDA.gov, pbs.org, Rx for Survival video-the one on vaccines) (if you would like to use other sources, please ask first, most .gov and .edu approved-maybe .org and .net) (site using MLA format please!!!)
*Any questions/concerns-just email me :)
Pro tips: Very few people earn all 5% as most students do not follow all the directions. Main mistakes: too many words on your slide (no more than 10 per slide), not in YOUR own words, MLA/citation not done correctly (our teacher-librarian can help you during free tutoring), grammatical errors/spelling mistakes
The Hand Washing Extra Credit:
Create a song/rap/video/puppet show/poster/3D model/children's story book, etc (check in with me if your idea is not listed) to demonstrate the proper way (5 steps) to wash your hands. *Although you may not be able to physically get together, you may work virtually with up to 4 other people on this project. Up to 5% extra credit
Use the CDC site for guidance: https://www.cdc.gov/handwashing/when-how-handwashing.html
And TeensHealth: https://kidshealth.org/en/teens/handwashing.html?WT.ac=p-ra
*If you are doing a written project, please make sure you use MLA to site your source(s) on the project/back is okay. If you are doing a presentation, please make sure you say the name of your source(s)/give credit during the presentation.
***See You Tube For Examples:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a2LLF9eE_VI
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2hm0_sNiN2M
***Keep in mind you have to use the provided resources and site your sources and demonstrate the proper way to wash your hands (5 steps)
Full extra credit = Your name(s), Your period #(s), all 5 steps clearly mentioned/demonstrated/illustrated (including how to turn on and off the water and I can clearly tell it is you/your group), source documented or mentioned
